National Sawdust is a music hall built inside an old sawdust factory in Williamsburg. The room is wrapped in a faceted skin of perforated, powder-coated aluminum that shapes the space and lets the sound through to the acoustic treatment behind it.
Bureau V's geometry came to us as a 3D model. We broke the frame into sections, welded them flat on the floor, then stood each section up in the hall and tied it into the next. The skin panels were laser cut by Maloya Laser.
Architectural Record credited the skin system and the miscellaneous metal to Seetin Design when the hall opened in 2015.
